The 2023 Shillong Premier League was the 12th season of the Shillong Premier League (SPL). Mawlai SC were the defending champions.[1][2][3][4]
Changes from last season
[edit]- In an unprecedented move, the Shillong Premier League 2023, delayed by several months, will only be played over one leg[5]
- There will be semi-finals and final after the regular season
- There will be no relegation[6]
- The prize money for the runners-up has been inncreased to 1.5 Lakh rupees
- Promoted from SSA First Division
- Relegated to SSA Second Division
Competition format
[edit]The competition consists of 7 rounds that follow a single round-robin format, with each team playing the others once, for a total of 7 matches each. The top 4 ranked teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs.
The position of each team is determined by the highest number of points accumulated during the regular season. If two or more teams are level on points, the following criteria are applied in order until one of the teams can be determined as the higher ranked.
- Highest number of points accumulated in matches between the teams concerned
- Highest goal difference in matches between the teams concerned
- Highest number of goals scored in matches between the teams concerned
- Highest goal difference
- Highest number of goals scored
Playoffs
[edit]The top 4 ranked teams play semis, where the 1st plays against the 3rd, and the 2nd against the 4th. The winners from the semis fight-off each other in the final.
