A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof (Japanese: 忍者と殺し屋のふたりぐらし, Hepburn: Ninja to Koroshiya no Futarigurashi, lit.'A Ninja and Assassin Living Together'), also known as NinKoro (にんころ), is a Japanese manga series by HundredBurger. It has been serialized in ASCII Media Works' shōnen manga magazine Comic Dengeki Daioh "g" since February 2021 and has been collected in five tankōbon volumes. An anime television series adaptation produced by Shaft premiered in April 2025.

Plot

[edit]

A ninja named Satoko Kusagakure is convinced by her leader Kuro to escape her village with other deserters, but without any money or friends in the outside world, Satoko nearly starves until she is saved by another girl named Konoha Koga, who happens to be an assassin. The two girls quickly form a partnership together: Konoha will rise in the rankings to become a top assassin and defend Satoko from other ninjas seeking to hunt down the deserters from the village, and in turn, Satoko will use her ninja magic to help hide the evidence of Konoha's handiwork and clean up Konoha's apartment.

Characters

[edit]
Satoko Kusagakure (草隠 さとこ, Kusagakure Satoko)
Voiced by: Haruna Mikawa [ja][2]
An escapee ninja from the hidden village somewhere in the mountains of rural Japan. She has poor martial arts skills, is a bit incompetent, and was often used to do menial tasks that other ninjas in the village considered beneath them. However, she learned how to clean, cook, and otherwise take care of others through her toil. She specializes in turning non-living people and objects alike into piles of leaves, making it easy to hide evidence and dead bodies.
Konoha Koga (古賀 このは, Koga Konoha)
Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa[2]
A rookie assassin and high-school girl seeking to rise through the rankings. Incredibly skilled at assassination and murder, she had trouble rising through the national assassin rankings as she often used points to take care of dead bodies and related chores rather than do them herself. After meeting Satoko, she finds herself slowly rising in rank, though she has trouble warming up to anyone besides herself.
Marin Izutsumi (イヅツミマリン, Izutsumi Marin)
Voiced by: Yū Serizawa[3]
A young mad scientist who designed Roboko to spy on Konoha and remove the competition, later becoming a reluctant friend of both the ninja and the assassin.
Kuro ()
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura[3]
The leader of the escapees from the ninja village who actually fled to be with her lover, Yuriko, in the civilian world. A very strong ninja in her own right, though she rarely shows off her skills, she does have the power to briefly hypnotize people and modify their memories. Kuro also enjoys gambling at local pachinko parlors, which frustrates her partner to no end.
Yuriko (百合子)
Voiced by: Rumi Okubo[3]
Kuro's lover willing to offer moral support to her and her friends, though she repeatedly tries to rein in Kuro's frivolous spending on pachinko and other unnecessary objects.
Roboko (ロボ子)
Voiced by: Haruna Mikawa[3]
Initially designed by Marin to spy on Konoha, Roboko is a robotic copy of Satoko. However, Konoha soon got attached to Roboko, making Satoko jealous and eventually leading to her destruction. Later on, Marin makes a new version of Roboko from her saved data.
Aoko Yoshida (吉田碧子, Yoshida Aoko)
Voiced by: Yui Ogura[4]
Satoko and Konoha's classmate. Her father was killed by Konoha.
Fumiko Kusagakure (草隠ふみこ, Kusagakure Fumiko)
Voiced by: M.A.O[4]
A ninja who tried to kill Satoko and Konoha, but was killed by the latter instead.
Michiru Kusagakure (草隠みちる, Kusagakure Michiru)
Voiced by: Kyōka Moriya [ja][4]
A ninja who tried to kill Satoko and Konoha, but was killed by the latter instead.
Midori
A ninja who attempted to poison Konoha, but the latter outwits and kills her.
Asuka
A ninja who ambushes Satoko in the bathroom before being killed by Konoha.

On her way home from school, the assassin Konoha Koga runs into the ninja Satoko Kusagakure, who had passed out on the street. Konoha treats Satoko to a meal, and Satoko explains that she is deemed a runaway after heading out to the city with a group of clan members, who would later abandon her. Runway ninjas will be hunted down and killed. After their meal, the two are attacked by Fumiko and then Michiru, who are from the Kusagakure clan. Konoha quickly assassinates them with Satoko transforming their bodies into leaves. Afterwards, Konoha lets Satoko stay at her apartment as her housekeeper. The next day, Satoko makes lunch for Konoha, but Konoha forgets to bring it prompting Satoko to track her down at school. Satoko and Konoha eat lunch together with Konoha's classmate Aoko Yoshida. After school, Konoha assassinates her next target, Yoshida's father, with Satoko turning his body into leaves; it is implied that he arranged for his own assassination for unknown reasons. The two have dinner at a restaurant and return to the apartment with Konoha explaining the rankings system for assassin as she currently ranks at 210th and sees Satoko's ability as the key to rise in the rankings.

One month ago, Midori and Asuka, two ninjas from the Kusagakure clan who bought a house and moved to the city, planned a girls' night in at the house with Fumiko. Back in the present, Konoha gets paid for her latest assassination job and gives Satoko a generous cut of her earnings. Satoko and Konoha go shopping for clothes, and after looking through every store in the mall, Satoko goes to the restroom where she encounters Asuka, who tries to assassinate her. Konoha sneaks up from behind to defeat Asuka, having correctly anticipated a ninja attacking Satoko when she is left alone. The next day after Konoha goes to school, Satoko wanders out in her ninja outfit, not liking the childish clothes Konoha picked out, and meets Kuro, the leader of the runaway ninjas. Satoko and Kuro go shopping together with Satoko buying some new clothes of her own. That night, Satoko talks about her future goals with Konoha, and for now, Satoko just wants to play around while Kuro is concerned about Satoko working for an assassin. The next day, Satoko meets up with Kuro at a café, and Konoha appears. Konoha orders coffee that had been secretly poisoned by Midori, and she appears after Konoha takes a sip. However, Konoha sensed the poison before she could drink it and fooled Midori into dropping her guard before assassinating her. Kuro then uses her skills to erase the memories of nearby witnesses so that Konoha and Satoko do not eliminate them. Afterwards, Konoha treats Satoko and Kuro to a fancy meal. In the epilogue, taking place before the episode itself, Midori and Asuka have their girls' night in with Fumiko to drink beer and to show her around the house, and after drinking several cans of beer, they got a phone call with their order to hunt Satoko down that ended in them getting assassinated by Konoha.
