"Fat Juicy & Wet" is a song by American rapper Sexyy Red and American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. It was released on January 24, 2025, through Atlantic Records and Gamma. Written by the artists alongside Jeremy Reeves, Jonathan Yip, Kameron Glasper, Ray Romulus, the record was produced by Mars and the Stereotypes, and it was mixed by Kevin "KD" Davis* and mastered by Colin Leonard, Blackthebeast. The song officially impacted US rhythmic radio on January 28.[3] The music video features cameos from Mars' previous collaborators Lady Gaga and Rosé, who appears respectively due to the popularity of the songs "Die with a Smile" and "Apt.", both of which Mars is also featured on.
Background
[edit]On January 22, 2025, Mars thanked his fans for keeping "Die with a Smile" (2024) at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and announced that he was headed to the recording studio to "make a strip club anthem", asking Sexyy Red to join.[4] The singer later revealed that he "found her" and shared a snippet of their upcoming song.[5] Similar to his previous collaboration with Rosé, Mars also posted a picture of them both together.[6]
Composition
[edit]"Fat Juicy & Wet" is a "raunchy, upbeat party rap anthem" that finds Mars and Red flirting and flexing, while the latter takes it back to her roots by boasting about the "quality of her lady parts" mixed with romantic endeavors. Mars reciprocates her energy and admits to being unable to resist her.[7] The song has been described as a crunk song that incorporates "'80s electro funk", Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" and is supported by a "snappy, throwback instrumental" that has been noted to be a Bruno Mars trademark, albeit an unusually "explicit" lyrical offering compared to his previous projects.[1][8]
Critical reception
[edit]Stereogum's Tom Breihan commended the song on its songcraft, production, and utilization of self-aware, silly raunchiness, writing that "the shock value is part of the fun".[1] In contrast, Alphonse Pierre of Pitchfork negatively commented on the track's execution of the concept together with its production.[9]
Music video
[edit]An accompanying music video was released on January 24, 2025, and was directed by Mars himself alongside director Daniel Ramos.[10] It features both artists against a dark red backdrop, dancing in matching pant suits with champagne bottles.[11] They are joined by Mars' previous collaborators Lady Gaga and Rosé, also dressed in black suits.[6]
