Anga Makubalo (born 15 March 1989), known professionally as NaakMusiQ, is a South African actor, model, and singer. He is known for his roles in the television series Generations, Z'bondiwe, and Isidingo.[1]

Early and personal life

[edit]

Makubalo was born on 15 March 1989 in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), South Africa. He later moved to Johannesburg with his mother, Nomvula, while his father, Musi Qaqambile, remained in Port Elizabeth.

In 2003, he enrolled at Edenvale High School, where he participated in various sports, including soccer, rugby, athletics, and cricket.[1]

After completing high school, Makubalo joined Talent International, where he studied presenting and acting, later serving as a part-time mentor and coach. In 2009, he enrolled at Damelin, Bramley, where he studied contemporary music.[2]

Music and acting career

[edit]

After studying contemporary music at Damelin, Makubalo began his musical career with assistance from his friend Rokker Rogerz, who introduced him to Lunga Nombewu of Baainar Records. He became the first vocalist signed to Baainar Records and released several songs, including "Ndiyindoda", "Move", "Ntombi Ethandwayo", "Crazy", and "Qina".[3]

In 2015, he joined Afrotainment and released an album on 31 October 2016, which featured 14 tracks including "What Have You Done", "Children", "Miss Me", and "Give and Take My Piano".[4][1]

In 2010, Makubalo auditioned for the role of Nicolus but was unsuccessful due to his limited proficiency in Tswana.

He made a guest appearance on the television series Mino Mania in 2011 as a singer in a minor role. That same year, he joined the cast of Generations as MJ Memela.[1] He went on to appear in other series such as Z'bondiwe (seasons 1–3) as Ntando Mabatha in 2015,[5] and later became a host of All Access Mzansi (season 10) alongside Mbali Nkosi.[4]

In 2019, he released the single "Ndakwenza Ntoni", followed by "Camagu" in 2020, a collaboration with Mobi Dixon.[4][1]

In April 2022, he was announced as the host of Tropika Island of Treasure All Stars.[6]
