Non-attributed translations

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from he:ברדק (הרכב קומי) to Bardak. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. Sample wording for this is given here. If you forgot, or were not aware of this requirement, attribution must be given retroactively, for example:

NOTE: Content in the edit of 01:25, January 25, 2023 was translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.

Retroactive attribution may be added using a dummy edit; see Repairing insufficient attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, you must add attribution retrospectively, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. JTtheOG (talk) 19:53, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Gateshead Hebrew Congregation moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Gateshead Hebrew Congregation. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit for review" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. JTtheOG (talk) 05:28, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: File:Shira Choir new logo.webp

[edit]

Hello Yeshivish613. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of File:Shira Choir new logo.webp, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: file must be the same format to bve elegible for WP:F1. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 22:35, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Whpq: the only author expressed a desire to delete the file, so you can delete it as WP:G7 (?) — Ирука13 13:31, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I missed that. Deleted. -- Whpq (talk) 22:21, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Yeshivish613. Thank you for your work on Shabbos Kestenbaum. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

A well-written biography, with sufficient reliable sources to establish notability; there is also evidence of coverage of some time ('sustained coverage'). The article could be better linked from other pages.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Assistance with editing the Purim article

[edit]

Hello, I started editing the Purim article and noticed that everything is messy with some warnings, but I wasn’t sure how to fix it. I saw that you’ve started improving the article, and I’d love to help. Could you explain how to organize it properly? HillelAmadeus (talk) 12:02, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help, the article uses the template Transl which is currently a redirect for discussion, so it automatically adds a warning. To fix it you would need to use source editing mode and change wherever it says transl to transliteration. I started doing it myself but there's a lot of them. Thanks so much, and Purim Sameach. Yeshivish613 (talk) 12:15, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@HillelAmadeus I forgot to ping you. Yeshivish613 (talk) 12:19, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Someone just fixed the RfD notice so its not as bad anymore, but you can still change them if you want. Yeshivish613 (talk) 12:22, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Yeshivish613 Thank you so much! I followed your advice and changed the template, I hope it won’t cause issues anymore. Thanks again and ah freilichen Purim! HillelAmadeus (talk) 12:39, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

תחפושת בפורים

[edit]

Yeshivish613 (talk) 19:03, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

RoySmith (talk) 00:03, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate the creation of this article, because the culture of Israel is heavily underrepresented in enwiki, and I myself trying to do something about this in my spare time when I am not writing other useless articles, such as Five and a Half Love Stories in a Vilnius Apartment or Conchoprimo :-). However please proofread the text carefully after you applied "google translate", I guess for speed. Because very often google writes very stupid things, such as this one. Cheers, --Altenmann >talk 19:29, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Halachic question

[edit]

Greetings, my friend,

As I am relatively new here and have been impressed by your edits (which clearly reflect that you are a talmid chochem and knowledgeable about Wikipedia) I have a halachic question for you:

Do you think it is permissible to edit Wikipedia during Chol HaMoed? Would this qualify as a davar ha'aved, or not?

I apologize for reaching out to you this way, but the rabbis I usually consult are not familiar with Wikipedia and can’t provide a full answer on this matter.

Thank you, and Chag Sameach!. HillelAmadeus (talk) 13:51, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @HillelAmadeus, while I'm far from a talmid chochom I appreciate your comments. I double checked with a rabbi on Chabad.org, please find his response below. All the best, and Chag Sameach!
Hi,
It comes down to why you're doing it:  If you're being paid for it as a job, then it should be avoided unless there will be significant financial consequences. But if it's just a hobby, then it shouldn't be a problem. As far as it being considered writing or davar ha'aved, it is most likely the latter.
I hope this helps.
All the best,
Rabbi Eliezer Zalmanov
